Team fitness challenge to benefit scholarship fund

CONCORD — On Sunday September 22, 2013, NHTI, Concord’s Community College will hold its first “Quonquer the Quad” team fitness challenge to raise funds for the Jennifer Kemp Memorial Scholarship.  The course, designed by Eric Marsh of Fun Intelligent Training, is comprised of numerous events created to give your body and mind a full work out, while testing your will and determination.

Tasks will range anywhere from a rope climb and tire flip, to balance beams and barrel rolls.  It will also mix in some mental puzzles along the way to give your brain a cramp as well.  Starting and ending in the NHTI quad, the challenge will take you around the NHTI campus and is sure to stretch your legs.

Teams are comprised of four people (age 18+), and each team must include at least one female member.  Registration is $20 per person prior to Sept 7, $25 thereafter.  Team check-in starts at 8 am Sunday morning, and the first team will begin the course at 9 am.

While this is definitely a race, and only the top 3 teams will receive prizes, the main goal of the event is to have fun and promote a healthy lifestyle.  So if you want to get creative with your workout routine, challenge yourself with a group of friends, or are just trying to get off the couch, ask yourself: Can you “Quonquer the Quad”?

The Jen Kemp scholarship is named in memory of a graduate of NHTI’s Sports Management program who passed away unexpectedly in 2004.  The scholarship distributes a minimum of three $500 awards each semester to qualified students who demonstrate strong academic skills and leadership potential, while also being active in campus life and community service at NHTI.  Since its inception, over $10,000 has been awarded to deserving NHTI students helping to make a difference.
