Trips can be combined with course work to earn college credit
NHTI, Concord’s Community College, is developing new educational travel opportunities that are open to the general public as well as to students. NHTI educational tours not only offer extensive sightseeing, but also provide an opportunity to immerse oneself in the culture or environment of a unique destination by participating in an enriched educational experience on location.
Unlike most traditional college travel programs, NHTI’s travel/study experiences do not require a full semester abroad; a typical trip lasts from one to two weeks. Students wishing to receive credit for these programs can combine them with appropriate classwork. A journal and final paper is usually required, and class meetings and assigned readings may also be necessary before and after the trip in order to meet the credit requirements. However, the college also welcomes participants who may simply wish to share in the travel experience.
Currently there are two travel/study abroad programs accepting reservations: a 10-day trip to Costa Rica in Spring 2014 (March 14-23), and a weeklong visit to Barcelona, Spain, in Summer 2014 (May 26 – June 1).
In Costa Rica, travelers can explore some of the world's most beautiful and unusual plant and animal habitats from the treetops on a canopy tour, from walking trails in the Cloud Forest, and even from their bedroom windows! Anyone who loves the outdoors will love this trip; it offers plenty of warm sun, beautiful white sand beaches, spectacular scenery and live volcanoes! But NHTI's Costa Rica program is not only about the country’s environment. It also offers a unique opportunity to discover another culture and to get to know the people who work hard to conserve and protect their unique environment.
Travelers wishing to earn academic credit for the Costa Rica trip can combine it with NHTI's four credit, online Tropical Ecology and Conservation course (BI 180).

If art and architecture — or food, wine and beaches — are your thing, Barcelona has a place for you. On a flexible and immersive visit to the Catalan capital, you’ll see exactly how close the city’s beloved modernist, Antoni Gaudí, got to completing his magnum opus, La Sagrada Familia, which is nothing short of colossal in person. Gaudí designed the basilica to require construction methods that had not yet been invented, and today, more than 130 years after construction began, its ever-changing edifice sets the tone for the entire city: permanently in flux, and forever looking toward the future. Other highlights of this trip include:
- Walking tour of Catalan Street
- Visit Open Air Plazas
- Walking tour of the Modernist District
- Experience a Flamenco Evening, and learn to dance Flamenco
- Visit the Dali Museum
- Explore Barcelona on your own
Travelers wishing to earn academic credit for the Barcelona trip can combine it with NHTI's three credit, Elementary Spanish II course (FL 112).
