CONCORD — This summer, NHTI, Concord’s Community College will offer a series of 4-week art classes in partnership with the Centennial Senior Center. The cost for each intensive, hands-on class is only $100. These are non-credit classes. Topics and schedule are as follows:
- Introduction to Pottery with Rachel Montroy
June 4-25, Tuesdays, 1-3 pm
In this workshop we will focus on the creation of functional pottery. Through learning the basic
techniques of clay you will make a cup, bowl, and a plate that you can take home and use
everyday! All levels of experience are welcome.
- Introduction to Drawing with Sara Ellis: The Wonderful World of Fruits and Veggies!
June 6-27, Thursdays, 1-3 pm
A beginning drawing class focusing on subject matter from the garden: fruits, vegetables, pots
and tools. Learn basic drawing techniques: contour line drawing, hatch and cross hatch drawing,
along with the fun techniques of stippling and scribbling. (Yes you’re going to scribble your art!!)
This will be a series of fun, relaxed classes learning the basics. Come join us!!
- Watercolor in the Natural Setting with Meghan Ambra
July 11-August 1, Thursdays, 1-3 pm
An introduction to the basic techniques of watercolor. Students will explore
pictorial composition, color theory, and watercolor related mediums and techniques, with
emphasis on selected subjects from the natural world.
- Ceramic Tiles and Reliefs with Bonnie Farren
July 9-30, Tuesdays, 1-3 pm
In this workshop you will make a variety of tiles ranging from decorative wall tiles to sculptural
relief tiles. You will also learn different texturing and glazing techniques. All levels of experience
are welcome.
- Garden Vessels and Sculpture with Rachel Montroy
August 6-27, Tuesdays, 10 am-12 pm
In this workshop you will learn various handbuilding techniques to make artwork for your garden,
patio, or front steps. Project options will range from bird baths and flower pots to nature inspired
sculpture. All levels of experience are welcome.
- Charcoal & Pastel Techniques with Sara Ellis
August 8-29, Thursdays, 1-3 pm
Continuing the bountiful summer theme, this beginning drawing class will focus on learning a
variety of techniques in using the mediums of charcoal, pastel and ink & coffee wash.
