CONCORD — For NHTI students interested in going on for a bachelor’s degree after they graduate, the path just got a lot smoother. NHTI, Concord’s Community College, and Southern New Hampshire University (SNHU) have partnered in a new dual admission agreement that can make the transfer of NHTI graduates to an SNHU bachelor’s degree program a near-automatic, virtually seamless process.
NHTI serves around 4,500 students, about one-third of whom go on for higher degrees. Although NHTI credits are highly-transferable to other institutions, students must still apply and be accepted to the programs they wish to enter, and decisions about which and how many of their NHTI credits will be accepted by the receiving institution are typically made on a case-by-case basis.
Under the new agreement, students who have been accepted into a degree program at NHTI can apply for dual admission to SNHU at any time. Acceptance is guaranteed provided the student successfully completes his or her associate degree at NHTI with a 2.0 or better GPA, and remains in good academic and disciplinary standing.
SNHU will accept up to 90 credits from NHTI toward the student’s bachelor’s degree. (Only course work with a C- grade or better is transferrable.) Since NHTI’s tuition is significantly lower than SNHU’s, a student who transferred the full 90 credits – rather than taking those credits at SNHU – would save over $10,000 at current rates!
“This agreement makes the pathway to a four-year degree less expensive and easier for our graduates,” says Susan Dunton, President of NHTI. “It eliminates redundant paperwork and enables our students to earn more credits toward a bachelor’s degree at lower community college tuition.”
